2024 was our biggest and busiest year yet!
We achieved some very special milestones, such as blessing and opening our new wing, launching surgical robotics, doubling our Endoscopy service capacity and welcoming over 9,500 patients through our doors.
Here’s a wrap-up of our 2024 highlights:
Record breakers & winners
Over 9,500 patients were welcomed to Ormiston Hospital & Healthcare this year – receiving care for range of services.
Our new wing was opened by Rt Hon Christopher Luxon in October – an expansion project that has been years in the making. This new wing represents more than just a building; it demonstrates our commitment to the health and well-being of our growing community.
Our new expanding healthcare hub can now offer:
- A dedicated Endoscopy suite, complete with 2x procedure rooms and recovery room
- 15x additional surgical in-patient rooms
- New state of the art reprocessing facility with new reprocessors and dryers
With our doubled Endoscopy capacity, we have cared for 3,523 Endoscopy patients in 2024 – as well as introducing POEM as a new service
To further support our growth ambitions, we also opened a new operating theatre in November, allowing us to increase our surgical capacity in 20%
We also proudly launched surgical robotics this year, with an initial focus on robot assisted radical prostatectomies with specialists Kamran Zargar and Morgan Pokorny.
Helping our people thrive
We welcomed over 60 new colleagues to Ormiston Hospital & Healthcare, which included doubling our Endoscopy staff.
29 new specialists were also welcomed to our team – including anaesthetics, orthopaedics and ENT.
2024 was a bumper year for our Values Awards! Over 195 nominations were made, with 79x colleagues nominated and 16x quarterly winners celebrated. Huge congratulations to Helen Nati who won our Supreme Values Award for 2024!
Supporting our community
Ensuring we offer exceptional patient care, and that we continuously improve, is at the core of our organisation. We received over 2,000 pieces of positive feedback this year, and have an NPS of 88%.
Chnnl, our colleague mental heath & wellbeing app was used by over 90 colleagues and a huge 1,770 check-ins made. 224 journal entries were submitted and hundreds of pieces of educational and support resources were consumed by our team.
To bring the Christmas cheer, we collected and donated 45x shoebox Christmas gifts for kids based in South and East Auckland who might have otherwise had Santa visit this year.
Plans for 2025 and beyond
Work is already underway on Stage 2 development of our growing healthcare hub. We plan to add more services to help our growing community and focus on adding new specialists to the team in the areas we want to grow – such as orthopaedics and gynaecology.
Further investment in digital services will also be on the cards, with a new Inventory Management System to be launched in Q3 and a new payment gateway on the website to streamline patient services.
A big thank you!
Thank you to all of our staff, specialists and the community – we couldn’t have achieved what we have this year without your support.
Have a safe and very merry Christmas, a great summer break and a prosperous 2025.
