Giving back to our community is a core part of who we are as an organisation and team. We have supported lots of very worthy causes over the years but haven’t officially chosen a charity to partner with as Ormiston Hospital & Healthcare.
We carried out some charity research in December 2024 with goal of identifying charities that fit these key parameters:
- They were an NZ charity that supports our local community
- The charity had to deliver support and/or services that helped the physical or mental health and wellbeing of Kiwis
- The charity’s goals and purpose had to align with our vision and values
Two shortlisted charities were then put forward to our wider team to vote on.
We are excited to announce that Prostate Cancer Foundation NZ is our official charity for 2025/2026.
Prostate Cancer Foundation NZ provide valuable services, support and research for individuals and families affected by prostate cancer. This charity resonated with our team for a few different reasons:
- One in eight Kiwis are impact by prostate cancer – it is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in NZ (apart from skin cancers).
- Every year more than 4000 people are diagnosed with the disease and over 700 die – it is the second highest cause of cancer death in men behind lung cancer.
- Prostate Cancer Foundation NZ doesn’t just fundraise for support and services for those impacted by this disease. They also have a proud history of supporting innovative research projects that seek to improve clinical outcomes, further our knowledge of prostate cancer and inform approaches to high quality support for those affected.
- With our recent investment in the Da vinci surgical robot, we can provide the ‘gold standard’ in prostatectomy treatment – meaning we are playing a small part in reducing the number of individuals who die from prostate cancer each year.
We are excited to support such a worthy cause and are working on our outreach programme for the years ahead. Watch this space to see how our team and organisation get involved to raise awareness and funds for Prostate Cancer Foundation NZ.
